A Day Out in Sydney with Aya

Sydney is a city of familiar landmarks, hidden gems and meaningful memories. In the first edition of MUJI to Go Travel Guides, Aya shares a personal guide to the city she grew up in, revisiting favourite places and local spots that continue to inspire her whenever she returns to visit friends and family.

Accompanying her throughout these journeys is the MUJI Hard Carry Carry-On Suitcase, designed to make travel simple, comfortable and effortless. From a cafe that offers reprieve from busy city streets to a hidden library filled with art books, Aya's guide offers a thoughtful perspective on experiencing Sydney through the eyes of a local.

BOOKS/LIBRARY

BOOKS/LIBRARY

Books Kinokuniya, CBD

Books Kinokuniya is a Japanese bookstore chain that opened its first Australian branch in Sydney in 1996. Offering an extensive range of books across diverse topics and languages, it's the perfect place to deep dive into your interests. The store is conveniently located upstairs from MUJI The Galeries. It's one of my favourite bookstores in the world.

Art Gallery of NSW Library, CBD

Designed by Australian architecture firm Tonkin Zulaikha Greer (TZG) and opened to public in 2023. The Art Gallery of NSW library houses Australia’s first children’s library alongside over 100,000 books focused on art. I could spend hours browsing the books and recommend it as a place to read, work, study or bring any children in your life.

JAPANESE CRAFTS

Simply Native, CBD

Simply Native is a specialty Japanese artisan store located in Surry Hills. Visit to browse, search for a gift or something special for your home. Owner Yukino Matsumoto's taste and care for unique, interesting Japanese craftsmanship shines through. I love seeing what she's added to her curation since my last visit.
CAFES & WINE BARS

CAFES & WINE BARS

Parami, CBD

While Parami is known as an onigiri cafe, it's so much more than that. Their high standard for coffee, matcha, onigiri and baked goods makes this Sydney cafe special. What's even better is the location. You can find Parami on the quieter backstreets of Sydney's busy city and sit amongst the gingko trees nearby.

Pellegrino 2000, Surry Hills

An afternoon at any one of Sydney's wine bars is usually a nice way to end a day in the city. Pellegrino 2000 offers a great spot for a more intimate dinner inside or a casual drink with friends from their outdoor seating. A perfect spot to people watch, catch up and end the day.
